The Narrows — Bottom Up
Wade upstream into a 1,000-ft slot canyon. Zion's signature bucket-list walk.
The Mighty Five & Beyond
Zion's quieter 'fingers' district — fern-lined creek crossings to a Double Arch Alcove, then a sunset overlook into a fortress of crimson amphitheaters.

Kolob Canyons is the part of Zion almost no one visits. It's a separate entrance off I-15 — 50 minutes from the property — leading to the 'finger canyons' on Zion's western edge. Same red rock geology as the main canyon, dramatically less crowded, and a 5-mile scenic drive that ends at the Timber Creek Overlook with one of the best sunset views in southern Utah.
**Two trails worth your half-day:** Taylor Creek (5 miles round-trip, moderate) follows a creek through three pioneer cabin sites to the Double Arch Alcove — a massive overhang with a small spring and an alcove arch carved into the back wall. Timber Creek Overlook (1 mile round-trip, easy) is the short paved trail at the end of the scenic drive that opens onto the Finger Canyons amphitheater.
The smart play is to do both: morning Taylor Creek hike, lunch at the picnic area, sunset at Timber Creek Overlook. The whole loop is 3-4 hours plus drive time. There's a small visitor center with a stamp for the National Park Passport book if you collect those.
**No shuttle**, no permits, no crowds. This is the Zion you tell first-time visitors about after they've done Angels Landing and the Narrows.
